Tour participants will get to enjoy the comfort of the Cocky's Reading Express shuttle, and a delicious meal. All tour proceeds support SCASL programming and advocacy efforts.

Our Story Matters Civil Rights Walking Tour

The "Our Story Matters Civil Rights Walking Tour" uses downtown Columbia's Main Street as a classroom to teach the history of the local Civil Rights movement. Explore historic civil rights images, via our wayside signs, throughout downtown Columbia. Get to know the history surrounding South Carolina's state historic markers, public art, murals, and monuments installed throughout its capital city. Dive deeper into our history and learn how local, unsung heroes fought for social justice, creating changes that influenced the Civil Rights movement on a state and national level. The tour will begin at the African American monument on the Sumter Street side of the statehouse grounds.
